When Amazon recently got caught in President Trump’s crosshairs for reportedly planning to list the added costs of new tariffs on products sold at its online store, the drama underscored just how much is at stake for companies amid hiked-up taxes on U.S. imports. When Amazon recently got caught in President Trump’s crosshairs for reportedly planning to list the added costs of new tariffs on products sold at its online store, the drama underscored just how much is at stake for companies amid hiked-up taxes on U.S. imports.Business[#item_full_content]
Imagine a radiologist examining a chest X-ray from a new patient. She notices the patient has swelling in the tissue but does not have an enlarged heart. Looking to speed up diagnosis, she might use a vision-language machine-learning model to search for reports from similar patients.Imagine a radiologist examining a chest X-ray from a new patient. People store large quantities of data in their electronic devices and transfer some of this data to others, whether for professional or personal reasons. Data compression methods are thus of the utmost importance, as they can boost the efficiency of devices and communications, making users less reliant on cloud data services and external storage devices.People store large quantities of data in their electronic devices and transfer some of this data to others, whether for professional or personal reasons. New study reveals generative AI boosts job growth and productivity
A new study analyzing more than a decade of U.S. patent data has found that not all artificial intelligence (AI) innovations displace human workers—some, particularly generative AI, actually augment jobs and drive firm growth.A new study analyzing more than a decade of U.S. patent data has found that not all artificial intelligence (AI) innovations displace human workers—some, particularly generative AI, actually augment jobs and drive firm growth.Business[#item_full_content]
A new AI model, H-CAST, groups fine details into object-level concepts as attention moves from lower to high layers, outputting a classification tree—such as bird, eagle, bald eagle—rather than focusing only on fine-grained recognition.A new AI model, H-CAST, groups fine details into object-level concepts as attention moves from lower to high layers, outputting a classification tree—such as bird, eagle, bald eagle—rather than focusing only on fine-grained recognition.Hi Tech & Innovation[#item_full_content]

As Europe’s energy system faces new challenges and accelerates green and digital transitions, generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) is emerging as a transformative enabler for critical infrastructure—and is already unlocking “quick wins” across Europe’s energy landscape, optimizing operational efficiency, workforce resilience, planning of large-scale infrastructures, and system flexibility. As Europe’s energy system faces new challenges and accelerates green and digital transitions, generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) is emerging as a transformative enabler for critical infrastructure—and is already unlocking “quick wins” across Europe’s energy landscape, optimizing operational efficiency, workforce resilience, planning of large-scale infrastructures, and system flexibility.Energy & Green Tech[#item_full_content]
When disasters happen—such as hurricanes, wildfires and earthquakes—every second counts. Emergency teams need to find people fast, send help and stay organized. In today’s world, one of the fastest ways to get information is through social media. When disasters happen—such as hurricanes, wildfires and earthquakes—every second counts. Predicting whether or not companies will be successful is crucial for guiding investment decisions and designing effective economic policies. However, past research on high-growth firms—enterprises thought to be key for driving economic development—has typically shown low predictive accuracy, suggesting that growth may be largely random. Does this assumption still hold in the AI era, in which vast amounts of data and advanced analytical methods are now available? Can AI techniques overcome difficulties in predicting high-growth firms? These questions were raised in a chapter I co-authored in the De Gruyter Handbook of SME Entrepreneurship, which reviewed scientific contributions on firm growth prediction with AI methods.Predicting whether or not companies will be successful is crucial for guiding investment decisions and designing effective economic policies.
